Missing Her

The upstairs tub is…FIXED!!!  After watching numerous youtube videos, I struck out on my own and began “fixing” the tub.  The experts (digital armchair plumbers) assured me it is a simple “remove and replace” job.  Great!

Home Depot Trip Log:

1. Screw backout bit to remove a stuck screw in the shower handle
2. Screw removal kit, the backout bit…bites
3. Shower cartridge and replacement screw (2 and 2.5 inches just in case) plus some faucet grease (good investment it turns out).
4. Shower cartridge removal tool  Mission aborted after I had a total “M” moment and saved $12 – $40 bucks.

So now we have the house water turned back on AND hot water in the shower upstairs.  Next mission, add that flexible shower attachment and also take the dogs to the vet!

So I’m well on my way to making the king pig for Halloween.  The paper mache thing is pretty fun but messy and takes up a lot of room.  Probably best to do these big projects without a bunch of people trying to live in the same space.  I do wish the kids were here to help out, it would be fun to make some crafts together.  Mostly feeling unmotivated because I miss you and want to see you soon.  The end of the month can’t come fast enough for me.

Remember that time we went to the Grand Canyon?  The snow was a nice touch but a bit worrisome.  I’m glad we went to see the sites in the bitter cold weather.  I really didn’t expect to need snow gloves on the way to California.  We all enjoyed the restaurant in Albuquerque (no left turn needed).  I think we do some good trips.  Looking forward to the next little weekend getaway.  Now, what to do with the kids?

Here is the blend that makes us so interesting.  You can trap me into watching the Mr. Darcy / Ms. Bennett drama and yet you resist my attempts to snare you with Tux.  Perhaps I am the weak willed party, easily swayed.  I think the pond scene in “Love Actually” is quite a bit better than Mr. Darcy’s swim at Pemberley but that’s probably a matter of taste.  At any rate, the history geek and the tech geek were fruitful and multiplied.  Hopefully we are bucking the trend.

I don’t remember discussing church or religion before marriage.  I’m sure it came up but not in a serious format.  I knew very little but was pretty sure that I was the “expert” when it came to religion.  Something I didn’t expect was that my wife would draw me so much closer to Jesus.  She just started really getting into the Bible.  Her enthusiasm woke me up spiritually.  I thought I was doing ok before, now I see that I was a sleepy Christian.  I was content with attending church and not much more.  Now I crave the Bible.  I really want to learn more, help more, and serve more than ever before.  In my darkest hours I have felt God’s love flow through my wife.  I’m more open to His will than ever before.

A nod to my wife’s wilder choices of spending time with friends.  We met a lot of interesting people and she made some new friends.  No long term bad behaviors though I still have to watch out for the random “hip check” if I’m not behaving.  I really admire your strength Alaine.  I think derby was really cool because you were able to show some butt kicking skills.  It was good to see you take on something really different, enjoy it and excel.  Just another reason I’m glad you’re my “rad” wife.

Portmerion, another feather in your cap my dear.  I hope you had as much fun on that trip as I did.  I will admit to disliking the driving.  Those Welsh roads are terrible and a bit scary.  Only a few wrong turns and one or two dreadful roads.  I really like our adventures.  I am thankful that you have an inner drive to see the sites and explore (although you sometimes call it getting lost).  I hope our adventures last for many years to come.  We are at our best when we are taking on the world…together.

After  a great chat with my other half, I started thinking about my role as her husband with regards to our marriage.  I choose to be a partner in all things.  I will try new things with my wife.  We will travel together, eat together, live a life together.  I will not be a sentinel.  I will not be like the wooden soldier, there but not really participating.  I am more excited by what lies ahead than when we were first married.  Who can blame me?
